I’m a priest and teacher trained in the Holy Order of MANS. I believe that understanding comes from direct experience, not from reading a mountain of books. I help people take charge of their spiritual life by providing them with a systematic, self-guided program designed to get the most out of their spiritual practice and create a deep and fulfilling relationship with God.
Here’s a little about my background:
My teacher once told me, “If something is spiritually correct, it must also be scientifically correct.” This makes imminent sense to me and has motivated me over the years to find the parallel streams of consciousness in these two approaches to truth.
While in the Holy Order of MANS, I came to know the great Sufi teacher, Murshid Samuel Lewis and attended many of his lectures in San Francisco.
Also in SF, during my priesthood training, I took a complete course in Tarot symbolism given personally by Jason Lotterhand, the renowned Tarot expert and one-time head of the Builders of the Adytum in Los Angeles. These lessons were generously supplemented by Mother Ruth Blighton, the co-director of the Holy Order of MANS, who spent many hours with me one-on-one explaining the deeper truths hidden in the Major Arcana, the first 22 cards of the Tarot.
In the mid-1980s, I had the good fortune of meeting, conversing, and meditating with Katagiri Roshi, student of Daisetz Suzuki and head of the Minnesota Zen Center in Minneapolis.
Among other books and authors to whom I am indebted are A Course in Miracles, Huston Smith, Joseph Campbell, J. Krishnamurti, and the scientists David Bohm, Richard Feynman, and Hans Jenny.
I have also studied extensively the works of Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami of Kauai’s Hindu Monastery.
My first love, however, is the Holy Order of MANS, and I now serve on its Board of Directors. Through the HOOM, I fell in love with the teachings of the Rosicrucians, the Theosophists, and Rudolph Steiner, all interpreted through the inimitable Father Paul Blighton, founder and head of the HOOM. These teachings continue to influence me deeply and guide me in my inner work.
In 1972, I was ordained a priest by Father Paul, and in 2011, I was ordained a teacher by Master Timothy Harris of the Gnostic Order of Christ.
Since 2020, I have taught regular online classes for the Holy Order of MANS on the mystical interpretation of the Bible and classes on meditation.

Christian Mysticism is the experiential side of Christianity—the experience of union with God. Just as Zen is the inner path of Buddhism, Sufism the inner path of Islam, the Kabbalah the inner path of Judaism, and Vedanta the inner path of Hinduism, so is Christian Mysticism the inner path of Christianity. Its teachings focus on meditation and prayer.
I was ordained in 1972 by a Christian master teacher, Dr. E. W. Blighton, who like Saint Paul received a revelation from Jesus Christ to start a Christian Mystical order that came to be known as The Holy Order of MANS. Father Paul, as we liked to call him, was recognized by many other master teachers of different traditions, including Murshid Samuel Lewis of the Sufi Ruhaniat International, a branch of the Chishtia Sufi lineage and Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami of Kauai Aadheenam, also known as Kauai’s Hindu Monastery. As Jesus said, “By their fruits you will know them.” As a duly acknowledged master teacher or guru, Father Paul had the authority to ordain priests, which he did under the authority of the Order of Melchisedek and the Order of the Golden Cross. This is the lineage in which I am ordained.
I spent seven years in the Holy Order of MANS—two years as a student and five years as a priest. I have also trained in the Gnostic Order of Christ and the Order of Christ Sophia, both of which were offshoots of the Holy Order of MANS. In addition, I have studied at the Unity School of Religious Studies in Independence, Missouri, and two years with Landmark Education in Kansas City. All my formal training has been primarily experiential in nature with many hours spent in prayer and meditation under the guidance of Christian masters. Part of my training was as a street minister and resident priest of the Holy Order of MANS’ homeless shelter in San Francisco.
No, I consider myself to be a modern Christian mystic and initiate, one who has had sufficient spiritual experiences to know the inner pathways to God-realization. I call myself a Christian but with the understanding that all paths lead to the summit and at the summit all paths converge. I am equally at home with the teachings of Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and Taoism. I am most at home with the teachings of the Master Jesus and the New Testament. I also love the Gospels of Mary Magdalene and the Apostle Thomas.
No. I am first and foremost a priest of Jesus Christ after the Order of Melchizedek and the Order of the Golden Cross. As such, I am authorized to bring people into the Light of Christ (the initiation of Illumination) and to rend the veil of one’s inner temple (the initiation of Self-realization).
Michael is a Christian priest and master teacher. For seven years, he was trained in the Christian mystical order, the Holy Order of MANS, a non-sectarian, esoteric school of initiation, where he learned the principles of Sufism, Hinduism, Rosicrucianism, Theosophy, and Zen.
As a teenager and young adult, Michael’s passion was alpine ski racing where he competed in Class A Senior races throughout the Far West. He spent his summers at Lake Tahoe water skiing and racing motorcycles in Reno, Nevada.
Michael has been a writer from a very early age. He has a blog, MysticalChrist.org, and is the author of two books, World Priest and The Five Vows, both available online.
